I could not think of a better way to tell the story of WWI.
Another way is to let the students play Diplomacy, then see the movie and make them consider the callousness with which they were sending young people to war. When Paul returns home and talk with friends and family this is exactly their attitude: A game for hollow victories with no thought on the cost and consequences.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-50095510999810669512014-09-10T23:09:11.096+03:002014-09-10T23:09:11.096+03:00I show this in my history class. I think this is definitely a high quality movie.

TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-4805164438950185372012-08-17T01:22:33.026+03:002012-08-17T01:22:33.026+03:00This is one of my favorite war films. I loved how it showed the adults in the town were all about telling whatever lies they could to get the young boys to go off to fight their war for them. The exact same situation exists today.

The battle scenes also impressed me quite a bit for a 1930 film.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-32672635492923113682012-08-07T00:14:48.076+03:002012-08-07T00:14:48.076+03:00Yes, it makes quite an impact.

But there is also something positive in telling us that we are humans before we are soldiers.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-73227020218499294162012-08-06T23:49:41.864+03:002012-08-06T23:49:41.864+03:00Man, this movie... It shocked me, how brutal and powerful and gruesome it was FOR 1930!!! I am trying to get myself to rewatch it to blog about it, but it's tough because I know this movie is so tough.

This is a hell of a film.siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
