Meet me in St. Louis is like a deep blanket to hide under and it serves/served its purpose I suppose.
I am sorry you had to experience that.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-40378084634135314932013-09-04T16:55:43.378+03:002013-09-04T16:55:43.378+03:00Great and understandable review!

The last time I watched it was the day some idiot in Helsinki where I was living at the time shot a bunch of random people in a shopping mall. I started sobbing in the movie where the father says they don't have to go to New York. New York = harsh reality, in this case. The film must have been similarly cathartic for people living with the worry and hardship of WWII.

Then again, I am a girl.marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-71208357532495617272013-09-04T08:44:54.171+03:002013-09-04T08:44:54.171+03:00Thank you! They seem rather spoiled.
However you see this attitude even today, albeit watered down a bit. Resistance to change has alway made successful movies.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-25043605844471141682013-09-04T08:41:48.984+03:002013-09-04T08:41:48.984+03:00I do not know if they are as bad as that, but the ...I do not know if they are as bad as that, but the tone of the movie supports this very reactionary worldview that the characters represent. It is like a support argument for anti-suffragettes.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-43445923931176769662013-09-04T06:39:48.925+03:002013-09-04T06:39:48.925+03:00For what it's worth, I never saw this film unt...For what it's worth, I never saw this film until I watched it for the list.

I think you hit the nail on the head in that it was definitely going for nostalgia of simpler times because of what was going on in the world when it was made.

Like everyone else I liked the songs in the film. Like you, I was irritated by the reaction to the father's job change, said job being the thing keeping them in their fancy dresses.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-16352324327712886722013-09-03T23:21:13.729+03:002013-09-03T23:21:13.729+03:00This will come as no shock: I hated this film. That said, I found the characters to be relentlessly awful.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
