It feels snobbish and arrogant and it pisses people off. I agree that it has retained its mystique and nobody really knows what it is about, even today. Is this a good thing? perhaps. I am intrigued and frustrated, endeared and insulted.
Marienbad is a very interesting place, truly charming, but I think you need to be 60+ to really appreciate it. It is also known as Marianske Lazne.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-80762210101446742962017-05-01T20:24:10.554+03:002017-05-01T20:24:10.554+03:00It's not for everyone, but I have Last Year in...It's not for everyone, but I have Last Year in Marienbad in my top 100. I love films that can maintain a mystique many years after their initial release. Same goes for 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Double Life of Veronique. All three films are also visually stunning.
I guess I don't need to visit Marienbad then, if the castle/garden isn't there?Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-48732294221439036682017-04-23T22:43:53.184+03:002017-04-23T22:43:53.184+03:00That is true on both accounts. The cinematography is interesting for sure.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-19394036477419650542017-04-22T17:31:42.773+03:002017-04-22T17:31:42.773+03:00Yes, that was the very clear picture I got from yo...Yes, that was the very clear picture I got from your review. Had I not been prepared for this I may have had the same reaction. I did not love it and I did find it outragously pretentious, but a part of me also thought it was fun. Today this is the image of a pretentious French art movie and that is an achievement in itself.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-55159616849909820062017-04-22T15:32:47.240+03:002017-04-22T15:32:47.240+03:00I felt this very finely walked the line between in...I felt this very finely walked the line between intriguing and pretentious twaddle. I was impressed by the editing, and Resnais clear ideas regarding the images, but I still don't know if it was all worth it. Lucky it is short, so I may give it another go.Julia Machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09041411551162128922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-18102686897247040842017-04-22T04:07:28.140+03:002017-04-22T04:07:28.140+03:00I hated this movie.
