Frankly I cannot think of anybody 19 with this much sassyness and control.
Awesome.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-6426967030515047502013-09-12T09:26:16.092+03:002013-09-12T09:26:16.092+03:00I know, I know, there is a lot of Casablanca here ...I know, I know, there is a lot of Casablanca here and To Have and Have Not is certainly not as quotable as Casablanca, but to me what makes the difference is Lauren Bacall. She makes Bogart a better actor and really, this could be the worst story ever, the two of them would still make it a great movie.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-17559288576371321322013-09-12T09:23:56.899+03:002013-09-12T09:23:56.899+03:00Indeed. Their story is worthy of a movie itself.
Did you see Dark Passage? it is a few years later after they had become solid. It is very good and the chemistry is there as much as it is in To Have and Have Not.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-58964711264531435472013-09-12T06:26:30.480+03:002013-09-12T06:26:30.480+03:00And Bacall was only 19 when this was filmed. The last teenager I can remember in an adult role in a big movie was Keira Knightley in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. And even there she had a father who was telling her what to do for part of it.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-37854562184063276292013-09-12T00:53:45.132+03:002013-09-12T00:53:45.132+03:00Wow, do we disagree on this one. You know, American expatriate living in Vichy France-controlled territory, working on the side for La Resistance, accompanied by a love interest, a piano player, and a tubby enemy. Even the cop names (Renault vs. Renard) are damn similar.

Given the choice, I'd always pick Casablanca. I liked this; I just don't love it.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-31813922285085528432013-09-12T00:51:25.459+03:002013-09-12T00:51:25.459+03:00Bogie was very lucky, I think.
