What I noted was that it is so easy to stand behind the lines and look at a map with symbols representing units and something else entirely to be there on the battle ground. That contrast was highlighted very well.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-12339506938139652292013-11-17T19:04:58.236+02:002013-11-17T19:04:58.236+02:00What struck me the most during this was how idioti...What struck me the most during this was how idiotic the Allies' command officers were. They have two sets of men, but only send one to attack a near impregnable enemy position on a single front. When that predictably fails miserably, costing far too many lives for nothing but stupidity they finally commit both sets of men on multiple fronts whose combined force manage to dislodge the enemy. If they had just done that in the first place fewer lives would have been lost. I think that's the biggest reason the Army didn't like it.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-41209728746593344362013-11-16T20:49:58.293+02:002013-11-16T20:49:58.293+02:00Thank you. I will check these ones out, though the prevalent gung-ho style can be difficult to stomach. If you ever have time, Frank Capra made a series of propaganda films called "Why We Fight" that is very interesting though way more gung-ho than Huston's film.marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.com
