Do you mean the difference science fiction that tells an allegory over real life and science fiction as an excuse to throw in extra flashy special effects?
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-10705165223939598292015-01-16T20:17:59.955+02:002015-01-16T20:17:59.955+02:00This is one of the all time classic science fictio...This is one of the all time classic science fiction films. When I want to demonstrate the difference to people between "sci-fi" and "science fiction" this is one of the movies I recommend.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-28840642257604564702015-01-16T09:43:02.185+02:002015-01-16T09:43:02.185+02:00Yes, that nails it. The characters serve their purpose and it is not so outright dumb as to turn the movie stupid. On a side not I actually think that scientists back then were much more jack-of-all-trades than today. Of course not to this extent, but certainly not as specialised as today. Fridtjof Nansen is a good example of an explorer turned scientist turned statesman and somehow I find the idea of nations being run by scientist quite appealing.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-80232672157611413452015-01-15T21:16:12.017+02:002015-01-15T21:16:12.017+02:00Could watch this one again and again. And the professor is one of those 1950s professors who knows everything about science of every type. But the message is great and the story is fantastic.

As a result it's one of the best science fiction films of its decade.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
