The only problem with Ossesione really is that none of the characters are particularly likable.

I actually was not knocked over by Double Indemnity at first. It took some time. now I consider it an excellent film, but there is an entire crowd of excellent film noir around from this period.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-17145358429140503802014-02-11T09:16:18.870+02:002014-02-11T09:16:18.870+02:00I will add it to the list. It's a novela really, less than three hours long. I listen to most of the books I read these days. I do a lot of knitting while watching movies and "reading".marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-46918016151340264422014-02-09T21:12:22.665+02:002014-02-09T21:12:22.665+02:00No, Cora was a bit of a disappointment. I have started getting classics on audiobooks. It is lazy, but fun.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-32325955336197904312014-02-09T21:07:41.039+02:002014-02-09T21:07:41.039+02:00I have started watching a lot of Italian neorealis...I have started watching a lot of Italian neorealism and I have come to admire the style. It may be less studio, but not less dark and gritty. It is like somebody is moving the camera away from the stage and crying; see, it is just as dark and dramatic in reality.
I really wanted Frank to just walk out on her. She is a ticking bomb and he is the worse for staying.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-4655251739791410132014-02-09T21:02:35.623+02:002014-02-09T21:02:35.623+02:00Well, I am looking forward to read your review of ...Well, I am looking forward to read your review of it. You are probably right, that the first film you see sets the standard. John Garfield I will admit is a plus, simply because he is more likable, but in this case passion is needed and there he is sorely lacking.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-70914678766021069632014-02-09T20:51:59.616+02:002014-02-09T20:51:59.616+02:00I also saw Ossessione first and prefer it. Also Hardwicke was a shocker. So different from the "greasy Greek" of the novel. marie_dresslerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06334550550983418668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2746502363551524682.post-14427947348866955892014-02-09T19:13:10.574+02:002014-02-09T19:13:10.574+02:00I'm a fan of the Italian version--it's muc...I'm a fan of the Italian version--it's much grittier and less studio-esque. I like this version better in no small part because it's more streamlined.

However, it's worth noting that I saw this one first, just as you saw Ossessione first. That may be clouding both of our opinions.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.com
