2 Years Anniversary

2 Years Anniversary
It is that time of the year again. On Saturday I could celebrate 2 years of blogging.

Last year at this time I had just posted a review for number 172 (then number 159 “The Man in Grey”) while the most recent post is “Rope”. It is number 221, but counts for me as number 218 and used to be number 207. That means that I have climbed 48 movies up the List or 5 years from 1943 to 1948 over the past years. More or less the same as I did last year.

I also finished catching up between what I have seen and what I have written about (11 movies), finally getting that out of the way.

New movies were added to the List in the autumn causing a massive and at times confusing renumbering of the titles. 9 new films were added within the period I had been covering and I watched these as well.

Danish films have started to crop up in my edition of the book and in this past year I covered 3 of them.

That totals 71 movies since this time last year. I am okay with that. It is not a race after all.

I have not really planned anything new on the site although I am starting to get fed up with the boring default design I am using. So maybe one day I will freshen things up a bit. Though no immediate plans.

For about a month the world cup conflicts seriously with my movie watching. The games are played exactly in the window where I can seclude myself with my movies forcing me to be creative and selective. But hey, it is just a month and meanwhile there are some seriously good games on. We did not qualify this year because we have a crap team, but that means that the media are free to cover all the other teams and consequently this is a more interesting tournament to follow than usual.

Anyway summer is on. Outside temperatures will soon approach 40C and the humidity is racing upwards. It is nasty outside so close the shutters, start the air con and put on some old movies.

  1. Congrats on the anniversary. Being American I don't have the same interference from the World Cup, although the Americans who looked to be way at the back of the pack in the infamous "Group of Death" they were in actually have a possibiliity of making it out of the group now. Their second game is coming up in about an hour or so and I'll have it on.

  2. Good luck with the game. I must admit though that I have a lot of sympathy for the Ghanesian side and their advancement requires that America looses tonight...

  3. I thought 40 degrees in Denmark!!! Then I remembered you are in Israel. Don't feel too bad it is currently 41C here in the California desert and over 45C is not unusual in July and August.

Congratulations on two years of insightful posts. Looks like we are going to get farther and farther apart in time. I had some pipe dream about finishing up with the forties this year. Now I feel like I will be doing well if I get to 1945.

    1. In Denmark 25C is a scorcher. For a guy like me who feels comfortable in a Northern Atlantic 5C gale the summer here can be terrible. I try to stay in all day and still I get all clammy... I suppose it is the same in California.

Bea, with your prodigeous speed you will catch up with me eventually. By my own estimate I cover about 5 years per year and with that glacial speed we will never be far away from each other.

  4. Happy anniversary, TS. You seem to be moving right along. I am currently in year 5 of the expedition and am just now approaching post # 300, which will be of all things Henry V. I tried doing it your way recently, you know, watching the films in order, but I gave that up as I felt I needed more variety. Good to see you have more fortitude in that regard than myself! Good luck on your next year!

    1. I suspected as much. It pleased me greatly that you were taking a swath of movies that I had already seen. That meant that I could go directly to read them (always a pleasure) instead of waiting years. Good luck to you as well.

    2. Good news, however, in the coming three months I plan to review quite a few that you've seen, starting with Mrs. Miniver--hopefully a post for tomorrow.

    3. Excellent news. I look forward to read them. I am curious what you think of Mrs. Miniver.

  5. Speaking of the World Cup...Have you seen the Iranian movie "Offsides?" Not a 1001 entry, but a very fun movie if you get a chance to catch it.

    1. No, I have not, but perhaps something I should check out? There are a number of good an fun movies of sports teams from odd countries, but I have not heard of this one.

  6. You're right that this isn't a race. Unless you have nothing else to do, no one should really attempt this at the insane pace both Chip and I did.

Here's to the next two years, and the two after that and the two after that...

    1. Thank you very much for the kind words.

I know what my wife would say if I tried such a stunt. I would not be too popular...
